Working in China was the most incredible experience of my life! Firstly the children that I worked with are like any children at home and I had the most fun time getting to know them each week. The people I was working with, consisting of British and Chinese staff, were so kind and I enjoyed every minute I spent with them. But we weren’t just work colleagues, on the weekends we were able to become friends and experience different places around Shanghai and further afield. I am still in contact with both British and Chinese colleagues and I’m sure we’ll be great friends for a long time.
Working in China was an amazing and life changing experience for me. The job is so fun and comes with so many benefits, while also opening your eyes to a completely different and beautiful culture. Working with children opens up a world of possibilities and imaginations and I could not have asked for a better set of people to work with. My time in China has given me so many opportunities, even being given the chance to travel around Asia after finishing work. I met so many wonderful friends during my time there and I will remember my experience for the rest of my life.
Working for British Summer Camps in China has definitely been one of the best summers of my life. The average week involved leading activities, including sports and art, with a small group of 12 children. By the end of each week, you really start to build personal relationships with the children and get to know them really well. Not only did we help them improve their English, they showed us elements of Chinese culture that we would never had experienced if we were just travelling.
One of my favourite parts of the trip was working with such a fantastic, friendly team. On the weekends, we were able to explore Shanghai and create some amazing memories together. After camp was over, a couple of us took the opportunity to travel; visiting a number of countries including Vietnam and Cambodia. After months of living together, we all became really good friends and have stayed in contact since returning to the UK.
If you are looking for a truly immersive and exciting summer, I could not recommend working at camp enough!
